Imagine a situation where a couple of your friends are searching for a movie to watch. You are gathering feedback and ideas, but someone has already watched a suggested movie, another is not in the mood for drama tonight, and some have specific preferences. As a result, you are constantly searching, spending a pressured evening, and providing examples that don’t match the criteria of everybody simultaneously. After a few minutes of trying, some of them agree with any option, but you want to find a movie that makes everybody happy! What if you ask AI for help? What if you gather all the preferences and provide a movie based on ratings, feedback, and matches? This is how the idea for Raters was born.
Great idea! It saves you from endless "What to watch" debates during movie nights, especially when your film tastes diverge. Easy steps: - you open an iOS or Android app or website, rate at least three movies you like, and ask your friends to do the same; - machine learning algorithm processes your choices through 75k parameters and recommends an ideal option everyone will love.
Our Solution - turning the Raters idea into an $8M startup took three steps.
iOS app launch
Raters iOS app have got fantastic feedback from the client and first users. Thus, we tested product hypotheses, and Raters got its first users and $50K investments for further growth.
Android & web version
We were happy to see the 4.5-star rating and positive user feedback the Android app got on Google Play. People loved its idea, functionality, and community despite the lack of features.
Security and boost!
After all of the Raters apps met the security compliance criteria marketing team rolled out four monetization channels: movie promotions, in-app purchases, banner Ads, affiliate program.
